SPECIAL EVENTS RETURN TO: Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery USS Bennington Monument Memorial Service July 21, 2007 Two years ago, July 21, 2005 there was a memorial service for the tragic explosion that killed over 100 shipmates on the USS Bennington. This was not OUR USS Bennington, but the original gunboat USS Bennington PG 4. 2005 was the 100th Anniversary of that tragic explosion and a memorial service was celebrated at the USS Bennington monument in Fort Rosecrans National cemetery. We were represented with several shipmates present, and shipmate Bruce Forman lay a wreath at the monument on behalf of the USS Bennington Association.
