For the third, and hopefully successfully, time, I am sending an attached
file showing the flight crews dated "Pearl Harbor 1945"
My father is pictured somewhere in there, but he could not
remember where as this photo
was located approximately forty years after the war.
Am still hoping to get the war book scanned into a
computer format, so wish me luck.

Have been able to scan some additional photos my father had in his war
book. The photo of the flight crews is similar to the other one I sent, however,
this one also shows several ships from the fleet, including another
aircraft carrier. Note the impression of a pen pointing to the first row,
third person from the left. When enlarged, the picture clearly shows
the tattoo of a devil which my father had on his arm.

SWABBY
The photo called "swabby" is one of only three photos that survived the war
in which my father is identified. The notation on the back said "Near
Philippines, at the fore five, me with swab." According to my father, the
picture was to be mailed home, but the Red Cross stole his mail and gave
him all his mail, both incoming and outgoing, at the time he was
discharged. Red Cross claimed they "just located" the material. Long
story short, my father did not learn that his father had died a year
earlier until he got home. Red Cross refused to deliver a message from
home without receiving six months pay in gratitude.

SHIPMATES
The last picture is of my father on shore leave with three fellow
crewmates. If his stories of the war are correct, the picture was taken in
Tokyo right after the surrender as this was his only official shore leave
during the war. My father is the third from left with his arm draped over
two others. No names are given. Just for clarification, my father may
look drunk, but he is not. My father's eyes were so deeply recessed that
every picture ever taken of him, by pro or amateur, always made him look
drunk. In his later years, he avoided cameras because of this facial
feature.
