BENNINGTON GIRLS
Left is James A. (Skinny) Johnson from S-3 division
I am the "mystery" guy on the right in the photo - Bill Stine
OK, here's a little more on Miss Santa Monica, and .....
This is from DC, Dwayne Carroll, also a ship's barber, you may remember
last week's e mail about this came from Nick, Larry Nicole, ship's barber.
DC and Nick were running buddies, back then and even now, when they come
to a reunion, they wear Hawaiian type shirts
nice guys.
Bill,
The guy on the left is James Johnson, he was from Iowa. He was ship
service and worked the barber shop with me for awhile. Then he went to the
laundry. We gave him the nick name of Skinny Johnson because we had a
Fat Boy Johnson that had the same name, but you got it. He was fat.
I was standing next to skinny when he was chosen from a group of sailors.
Any one of them was more than willing to make the sacrifice of going out
on a date with either one of those babes.

While surfing the web site I came across your e-mails.
I am the "mystery" guy on the right in the photo.
I actually had a few dates with the gal I am standing next to.
But I don't remember the name of the other guy either.

OK, this week's picture of the week is direct from the Captain Howell
Archives!
There is a story behind this picture, although one of the girls are Miss
Santa Monica 1965, it is actually May 1966. (I guess Miss 1966 hadn't been
picked yet.) The ship anchored out in Santa Monica Bay for Navy w/e. and had
open house and tours all weekend. The liberty was great,
well.................................. for some of us. Let me assure you,
not ALL of the girls in Santa Monica looked like these 2. Let's just say
I have a story to tell, which I will ony tell on my death bed, if then, or
after awhile in the hospitality room at the reunion. (Thanks, Frank
Sporkman, whereever you are!!)
(Did you ever hear the story about waking up with someone, and wanting to
chew your arm off
rather than wake them up to get them off your arm?)
ANYWAY........... does anyone know these lucky 2 sailors from 1965?
