If you know a proper date and information for this photo,
please let us know so we can correct it.
I can tell you that this was before 1966- maybe well before. The aircraft were not painted that color on the nose the latter part of 1965 and onward when I was flying the SH-3A aircraft.

Thanks to some color pictures sent in by Bob Hadley
showning the nose to be orange, we may have a date for this.
Or maybe not.
Note that a tail code NT helicopter number 54 appears in both pictures
The one comment about identifying the "HS-8 recovery" helicopters does not look correct.
Evidently the orange color on the helo nose was a marking for HS-8 but you see that the two pictures show different model helos.
The one in the black and white picture is a later model than 1962.

The attached picture of the SH3A aircraft (an official navy photo) is dated 6-1-64.
That should clear up when the photo's were taken.
