Thanks to Ann Phillips for her contribution of these Travel Log Pages. Of course Mr. Whittaker, please post the letter for your website! I am glad I was able to have you folks see it! Hello Lonnie, I was wondering if you could credit my friend whom I inherited this letter from? He passed away last year, but was fascinated by all the history of WWII including the battleships. I have many items, and if I come up with any more items from the U.S.S. Bennington I will forward the photos to you. His name is Lawrence H. Peterson Jr, and he served on Tinian, and in Alaska. He did have two military careers, one in the Army and then he joined the Air Force. He used to say they were one in the same. He originally reported to duty on Hitler's birthday 1944. (4/20/44) and that was always a very significant date for him. I am sure it would be an honor to him, if you could mention that the letter came from his vast collection of items. Sincerely, Ann Phillips U.S.S. Bennington WWII Pre-Printed Letter to "Sweetheart" Original pre-printed letter sent home to the United States from naval officer on the U.S.S. Bennington during WWII
