I spent hours looking at the countless photos and reading old clippings from Roaring 20's and other great stories.
I spent almost 3 1/2 years aboard Big Benn from early 1965 until May of 1968. I felt like I went back in time.
The events that most stand out in my mind were times like Bob Hope's Christmas Show and watching the recovering Apollo space capsule, Maybe more awesome was the 6 glorious days we spent in Sidney, it remains the only time in my life where beautiful young women went for me as if I was some hunk and a famous movie star. Certainly a lot more fun then the time leading up to it when I got the crap beat out of me in becoming a Shellback.
The only thing missing was pics from a Chaplin's trip some of us took up into a very remote area of the Philippines.
I remember being scared only twice the whole time I was a Sailor.
Both of them occurred on that two or three day trip. One was flying down the mountain rapids aboard a canoe where we barely missed two maybe more giant rocks.
The other was sleeping in a hut that was over run with spiders some larger than your whole hand. They were extremely hairy and they were so large that you could hear them walking on the ceiling and walls.
Thankfully they were not poisonous but that still didn't keep us from being uneasy and getting very little sleep those two nights.
As you can tell your website got me reminiscing and remembering stuff I hadn't thought of in decades.
