Aloha again--

Did you ever hear the story about the Maple syrup?
We were somewhere in the south Pacific a day after refuelling when we took on provisions and mail.
Included among the mailed items was a five gallon tin of maple syrup.
Seems that the young ladies at Bennington College decided that it would be an appropriate act, supporting the war effort, to send the crew of the USS BENNINGTON some of the states renowned maple syrup.
The thought was what really counted.
The situation that developed was with 2500 men (more or less) on-board and with five gallons being equal to 1155 cubic inches it is easy to see that each stack of hotcakes at breakfast received about 0.462 cubic inches of delicious Vermont Maple syrup (watered down of course), and if you were early enough.
Again it was the thought that counted.
I'm not certain if Bennington College ever received a "Thank You" although that would be hard to concieve.

George
