This is Doug LaFriniere, Replying to your letter.
I joined the navy june 21 1956, did my basic at great lakes, and was stationed for 18 mo. at Des base in San Diago.
From there went aboard the "Benn" until discharge in May 1960.
I have been a carpenter for over 30 yrs in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area in Minnesota, married, 5 kids, 1!? wife,
Because of bad behavior, and general indifference, I never got above E4, but I sure enjoyed my time on west pack cruises on the old Benny,
Sorry to hear that she is no more.
I have contacted other shipmates informing them of the web site.
