CREW'S STORIES
RETURN TO:
Fireman To Fire Inspector
From Tom Ganse
USS Bennington , Fox Div. Fire Control Tech. Second Class FTG-2
Found Bennington 3-67 in Sasebo Japan did yankee station and must have done a good
job because they sent the ship to Sydney Australia. Ships company till 1-13-70 two
days before decommissioning.
Came home to PA.and jumped from job to job worked in a
watch factory, was a printer and repaired cooking equipment. Hired on 11-73 with the
fire dept. and did whatever the guy on the bottom of the seniority list does. Move
from station to station work shift work fight fires and shovel snow and clean
toilets whatever. Promoted to Lt. 1-83 put in charge of a ladder truck
and really enjoyed that. Ten years later the night work was getting to me so I took
a job in Fire Inspections. All day work no weekends or
holidays a first after 20 yrs. I enforce the fire code do plans review and all the
department statistics.
I have a wife Gina of 11 years and a grown daughter AMY who works in a local
hospital lab. She works with
taking tissue samples and like that. She is dating an ex-marine she listened to me
on most things so I can not gripe about the marine. It gives me someone to pick on.
I have only missed two reunions CO and CA. Gina and I really enjoy our NAVY friends
and now and then find someone that I served with.
